“One question that they ask me regularly and I understand that people have is the following: why should I choose MuleSoft? In the world of systems integration, the choice is huge. It is also often not immediately clear what the major differences are and then making that choice becomes difficult. That is why I would like to tell you what the differences are and why I MuleSoft FIND THE integration platform,” says colleague Raymond Veltrop, senior developer/architect at Harmony.

The biggest differences

If we look into the market, there are 3 major groups that we can divide integration solutions into based on certain characteristics:

  1. The group “tactical iPaaS”. Mostly point-to-point connections between questioner and respondent and a limited degree of reuse.
  2. API managers. Proxy-like use cases with limited linking and orchestration options.
  3. Multiple separate products that need to be merged to provide a total solution. Complex to manage.

This subdivision is therefore mainly based on how solutions to a (integration) problem are provided and the strengths and weaknesses of those solutions.

What makes MuleSoft different?

Looking at MuleSoft's setup compared to these three groups, we see a number of characteristic differences. Compared to the first group, at MuleSoft, we see an approach that we know as an API LED. This includes reuse from the start and prevents the setting up of point-to-point.

Compared to the second group, MuleSoft offers a very comprehensive set of connectors. This makes it possible to connect an enormous set of questioning and answering systems. Data transformation and orchestration is also a strong point by using a very powerful transformation language.

The API lifecycle

The group of platforms has a great complexity and often multiple products from a supplier are required to offer a total solution. MuleSoft's Anypoint platform offers a total solution that includes all these components. This makes it possible to go through the entire development cycle. Design, implementation, testing and management are provided.

These can be used within the developed APIs, such as encryption, but are also part of the platform itself. This makes it possible, for example, to arrange authentication and authorization. SLA agreements can also be integrated into the platform.

... is therefore that MuleSoft offers a solution that takes care of everything and covers all phases of the development and management cycle. With a large set of available connectors and a strong native language for transforming and aggregating data, this is a strong partner in integration issues within an organization. Good security options at all layers complete the picture.
