Dealing with change

“We have faced many challenges in recent years. The Covid pandemic is one of them, we have also switched to a new EHR (electronic patient record) system and are busy with the merger. In short, there are many challenges that we face as a hospital. Responding to this quickly and efficiently is extremely important for the proper functioning of our hospital,” says Quinten.

“Healthcare never stands still! As a hospital, it is important to use our resources as efficiently as possible. This means that we have to make constant changes to adapt to changing circumstances. Implementing these changes in a large organization is not always easy. That is why many small and large projects are being started throughout the various departments to make them run as smoothly as possible. The goal is not only to provide the best care, but also to relieve our employees and provide them with the best possible guidance. To get more insights about this, we used Harmony's business next step process.”

Workshops

“Before we started the workshops effectively, Harmony first interviewed key stakeholders within our organization. We wanted to understand the barriers doctors and staff face when implementing projects in order to continue working from there. Internally, we had also already done a preliminary phase with a group of people and thought about some issues.”

“The first workshop further focused on the challenges. For me, it was particularly important that we got a good idea of the bottlenecks so that we could continue working on solutions. What really stuck with me about that is that the image we already had of the bottlenecks in the interviews with Harmony was confirmed. All the ways in which we looked at a particular challenge came together in the workshop. That way, we were sure that we were on the right track.”

“In the second workshop, we took a closer look at what everyone within the organization can do themselves to address the identified bottlenecks. Harmony showed us how you can achieve a lot by starting with small steps and setting up experiments to see if the proposed ideas actually work in practice,” says Quinten.

Conclusion

“By following the business next step process, we have gained new insights that we can continue with ourselves. Concrete steps have already been taken to improve project operations, which will certainly improve the organization's innovative strength,” concludes Quinten.
